Water is one of our world’s most precious resources – and we treat it that way!
Through years of collaboration with industry leaders, government and the local community, Harmony has created an Integrated Water Strategy that lays the foundation for healthy, responsible water use throughout the community. Harmony’s Integrated Water Strategy focuses on collecting, conserving, reclaiming, and releasing water in a way that ensures public health and safety remains our highest priority, while also bringing evermore sustainable water practices to Alberta and Rocky View County.
Harmony’s primary source of water is the Bow River. Water is pumped from the river and stored in the community’s lake in the middle of the community. The lake also collects treated water from its upstream catchment through a series of carefully engineered and monitored conveyance systems (a sort of green web.) The lake has been meticulously designed to be a vital part of Harmony’s Integrated Water Strategy and daily life, and it will function as our community water supply and emergency water storage. Of course, it will also be an active amenity for Harmony residents to enjoy.
Water Treatment and Waste Water Treatment Facilities
After the lake provides pretreatment, active circulation, ozonation and aeration, Harmony’s water supply then moves through our state-of-the-art Water Treatment Facility. This facility features one of the most advanced water treatment technologies available – General Electric’s ZeeWeed model 1500D Membrane Filtration with UV disinfection.
Of course, Alberta is known for its mountain fresh drinking water, but what about reclaimed water? Harmony’s Waste Water Treatment Facility also uses General Electric’s ZeeWeed technology and is one of the most proven and effective ways of removing pathogens from waste water. In fact, Harmony’s reclaimed water will be treated to a standard that many countries in the world would drink!
We won’t make you drink the water but we are proud to note that Harmony is the first community in Canada to receive zero setback irrigation approval, allowing us to use our clean, reclaimed water to irrigate the golf course from edge to edge. Our golf course is another key piece in Harmony’s Integrated Water Strategy. Just imagine keeping the greens green, in the greenest way possible!
